Meersburg castle towers high above Lake Constance, a real landmark dominating the surrounding countryside. The ancient castle, the new palace and the excellently preserved town with its surrounding vineyards all combine to ensure that a visit to Meersburg is a really memorable experience.

The ancient Meersburg castle, already open to the public at the end of the 19th century, is doubtless one of Lake Constance area's main attractions. Visiting the castle and museum takes you way back in history - Germany's oldest castle has many a tale to tell.

Marvel at the over 30 furnished rooms on display! Visit the castle kitchen, the keep, the armoury, the knights' hall and the well chamber; continue to the battlements, the stables and the north bastion, to name but a few. 

Annette von Droste-Hülshoff

From 1841 to 1848 the well-known German poetess Annette von Droste-Hülshoff stayed in Meersburg castle during her visits to Lake Constance, and
also died here on 24th May 1848. During the tour you will visit her living quarters and the room where she died.
